NYC-based Morricone Youth perform an original live score for George Miller's 1979 classic «MAD MAX»!
MORRICONE YOUTH was formed in 1999 with a mission statement to compose, re-interpret, perform and record «music written for the moving image» (film / tv soundtracks, library music, etc.) in all incarnations from playing shows dedicated to specific composers / film genres in rock clubs/performance spaces with projections to live scoring films in theaters. Over the years, prior to 2016, we've released four CDs, toured throughout the U.S. and had residencies at the Knitting Factory, CBGB and Tonic in addition to writing original re-scores to Hitchcock's THE LODGER performed on Halloween 2013 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and an involved multi-media piece for Philadelphia Museum of Art's 2012 Marcel Duchamp exhibit involving chess masters, chance music, French soundtracks and live improvised video projections. Band members have scored for documentaries, short films, etc. and include current/past members of bands Creedle (Cargo/Headhunter), Crash Worship (Charnel), Pain Teens (Trance Syndicate), Pronto (Wilco side band), aMiniature (Restless), Tredici Bacci (NNA Tapes) and The Rugburns (Priority).
The band has recently embarked on an ambitious series of vinyl releases for all 15 films we have re-scored. The first three for NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED, and MAD MAX were released in Sept 2016, Nov 2016 and Jan 2017, respectively, while F.W. Murnau's SUNRISE is scheduled for Aug 2017, Hitchcock's THE LODGER for Oct 2017 and BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN for Dec 2017. The records are being distributed by Light In the Attic Records (Worldwide) and Revolver (USA).
