Here's a rundown of some of the highlights of Science After Hours: Don't Try This at Home:

Silent Disco

There’s a party going on under the stars and you are all invited. Drop in and dance with your friends to the same song or tune to a different channel and dance to the beat of your own drum with SilentPhilly.

Location: Fels Planetarium
Length: 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm

Caution: Test Show (Live Show)*

Get a peek inside the minds that create and perform the crazy demos that happen at the museum. In the hermetically sealed testing lab we will reveal our latest creations which should not be performed at home (arguably anywhere, for that matter). Remember our motto, it is not the size of the demo but…no wait, it is the size…totally the size.

Location: Musser Theater (3rd Floor)
Length: 25 minutes
Times: 7:15 pm, 8:15 pm, 9:15 pm

*This free show has limited capacity. Tickets for all three performances of this show will be available at the Atrium Information desk on the 2nd floor starting at 7:00 pm. Tickets will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. Visitors with tickets will be seated starting 10 minutes before show time.

Human Gyroscope

There’s no more mesmerizing way to learn about physics than through the acrobatic dance of a Cyr Wheel performer. Using rotational kinetic energy, torque, and inertia, this performer will swivel and spin using the energy of their body and the world around them. Trust us, you couldn’t try this one at home even if you wanted to!

Location: Franklin Memorial (2nd Floor)
Length: 10 minutes
Times: 7:10 pm, 8:10 pm, 9:10 pm

Tales from the Emergency Room

The emergency department can see the good, the bad, and the shocking. Come hear some of the most shocking stories and see some not so pretty pictures from an ER doctor from Thomas Jefferson University.

Location: Franklin Theater (1st Floor)
Length: 15 minutes
Time: 8:30 pm

Science After Hours Quizzo

Put on your safety goggles and thinking caps for our Don’t Try This At Home edition of Quizzo! Winners of each round get a free pair of tickets to the next Science After Hours.

Location: Franklin Foodworks (2nd Floor)
Length: 30 minutes
Times: 7:10 pm, 8:10 pm, 9:10 pm

Elephant Toothpaste

The heat is on with this exothermic reaction as we create a colorful blast of foam and steam that will be sure to leave you with a grin on your face.

Location: Science Park (Access from Atrium 2nd Floor)
Length: 10 minutes
Time: 7:40 pm

Soap Bubble Monster

Have you ever thought of putting dish soap in a dishwasher? Find out why this is not such a good idea as we create a bubbly mess so you don’t have to at this one-time only demonstration.

Location: Science Park (Access from Atrium 2nd Floor)
Length: 10 minutes
Time: 8:40 pm

Gravity Drop

It’s typically not a good idea to play with your food but we aren’t typical people. Let’s see what happens when some of your favorite messy foods find themselves hitting the floor from 42 feet up. You don’t want to miss this one!

Location: Atrium (2nd Floor)
Length: 15 minutes
Time: 9:40 pm
