Mad Poets Society presents Mt. Airy's longest-running poetry series, Poetry Aloud and Alive. Our April poet is Germantown resident Victoria Peurifoy. The reading will be followed by an open mic.
Amy Small-McKinney won the 2016 Kithara Book Prize for her second full-length collection of poems, Walking Toward Cranes, forthcoming in January 2017 by Glass Lyre Press. She is also the author of Life is Perfect (BookArts Press, 2014) and two chapbooks of poetry, Clear Moon, Frost (2009), and Body of Surrender (2004), both with Finishing Line Press. She has twice been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and was selected by poet Christopher Bursk as the 2011 Montgomery County Poet Laureate. Her poems have appeared in The American Poetry Review, The Cortland Review, Tiferet, upstreet, arc—24, The Pedestal Magazine, Blue Fifth Review and anthologies, Bared: Contemporary Poetry and Art on Bras and Breasts (Les Femmes Folles Press), and Veils, Halos, and Shackles: International Poetry on the Abuse and Oppression of Women, Edited by Charles Fishman and Smita Sahay. Small-McKinney has a Masters in Clinical Neuropsychology from Drexel University, but has returned to school for an MFA in Poetry and Translation at Drew University’s low residency program. She facilitates poetry workshops in the Philadelphia area.
