Amalgam Comics & Coffeehouse, Inc.
2578 Frankford Ave, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19125
On Saturday, July 22nd Amalgam welcomes story teller and comic book creator Fabrice Sapolsky and comic book artist Will Torres to the shop!
Mr. Sapolsky will be debuting his new graphic novel, «Intertwined», 3 weeks BEFORE the official release date! kickstarter.com/projects/530822722/intertwined-by-fabrice-sapolsky-and-fred-pham-chuo
It’s 1971. The world is in a very strange place. The Woodstock generation is still making waves. Feminism is ascendant, while the Black Power movement has fractured, and war still rages in Vietnam. But, above all, New York City is still a very violent place. The city is in economic decline, and it’s hard for anyone to maintain a decent life, especially immigrants. InterTwined is a story about legacies. About what it feels to be an immigrant in general, and an Asian one in particular, in the 1970s New York area. Following the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, many people from Asia came to the United States. The series borrows elements from the Spider-Man and Daredevil mythology, only to build its own. What if the urban hero was an immigrant?
Mr. Sapolsky & Mr. Torres will also have various pre-drawn sketch covers, including the very rare Edge of VenomVerse #1, as well as other original art and prints! And as a special treat they will be giving out FREE art prints to customers that shop the store during their signing! Don't miss your chance to get some awesome FREE art!
About our guests:
Fabrice Sapolsky was born in Paris, he’s the co-creator of SPIDER-MAN NOIR from Marvel Comics. He co-wrote the first two mini-series as well as the Edge of Spider-Verse#1 issue (all with David Hine). He also did an album, BLACK BOX, with Tom Lyle for the French market, before launching his first full creator-owned, ONE-HIT WONDER (with art by Ariel Olivetti, Stephen Thompson and Ivan Fiorelli) at Image Comics. Before writing comics, Fabrice launched COMIC BOX, a bimonthly comic-book newsmagazine about American comics, only available in France. He was its Editor In Chief between 1998 and 2011. He currently resides in Brooklyn, New York and has half a dozen comic book projects in development.
Will Torres is a comic book fan at heart. Over the years he has trained himself to become a comic book illustrator. His devotion and passion for the comic book medium is the reason why he decided to become an illustrator. For as long as Will Torres can remember, he loved to draw. Will's areas of expertise are comic book penciling, inking, digital coloring, watercolor painting, portraiture, and storyboards. He lists his influences as John Bryne, Jim Lee, Rob Liefeld, Marc Silvistri, Michael Turner, and Todd McFarlane. His future plan is to finish writing and drawing the adventures of a comic book character he has created with the help of comic book legend and icon Stan Lee! Will Torres artwork can be seen in Hollywood actor Seth Green’s comic book property «Freshmen: Summer Vacation Special #1» (back-up story art) from Top Cow Productions, The Walking Dead magazine #5(interior pin-up art) and at comic conventions creating cool kickass sketch covers for comic fans. To quote a man who was a perfectionist, it was Bruce Lee who said it best: “the key to immortality is first living a life worth remembering.”
