With the German volunteers of Aktion Suehnzeichen Friedensdienste (Action Reconciliation Service for Peace)
Come and join us at The German Society of Pennsylvania for a special movie night in cooperation with the German service organization Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste!
“And Along Come Tourists” is a 2007 German feature film that depicts the life of Sven Lehnart, a young man doing alternative military service with ARSP in Oscwiecim (Auschwitz) in Poland. There, he encounters a survivor of the concentration camp, and experiences confrontations with the past while navigating the challenges young adulthood and of the present. The movie is based on the personal story of writer, director, and former ARSP volunteer Robert Thalheim.
ARSP, founded in 1958 by members of the Protestant Church in Germany to confront the legacy of Nazism and the Holocaust, has had volunteers in the United States for close to 50 years now. ARSP is sending 180 volunteers to serve with projects in 13 countries as part of a year-long program.
A meet-and-greet with the current generation of volunteers here in the US and opening remarks by US program director Mark McGuigan will precede the screening of the film “And Along Come Tourists”.
Refreshments and snacks will be available. The movie will be shown in German with English subtitles.
