The Gospel of John leads the reader through the litugical year, so to speak. Near the beginning of the gospel we hear about the Passover of the Jews (John 2:13). Jesus' first major public discourse is connected with a feast of the Jews, probably Pentecost (John 5:1). The next great discourse occurs again in the context of Passover (John 6:4). The next discourse where Jesus promises «living waters» is during the feast of Tabernacles. Finally Jesus is also present in Jerusalem for the feast of Hanukkah (John 10:22). Jesus' life and journey is completed in his Last Passover (12:1) when he is the sacrificed Lamb who gives his life on the cross and overcomes death (John 13-22).
These series of talks will examine the final culminating event if the Gospel: Jesus' Last Passover (John 13-22).
1. The first night we will examine Jesus' final words and deeds (John 13-17).
2. The second night we will examine his sacrificial and atoning death (John 18-20).
3. The third we will examine Jesus' resurrection and post-resurrection appearances (John 21-22).
This series will be led by Kelly Anderson who teaches at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary (http://scs.edu/person/ms-kelly-anderson-phd-candidate-ssl-stb-ma).
