PhilaMOCA welcomes actress Susan Lowe for a special 40th Anniversary screening of the John Waters classic DESPERATE LIVING!
Susan Lowe was a John Waters regular having appeared in 10 of his films including a leading role in DESPERATE LIVING as the memorably angry bleach blonde Mole McHenry. From 1969's MONDO TRASHO to 2000's CECIL B. DEMENTED, Lowe witnessed the evolution of one of our nation's most gloriously trashy filmmakers and she'll be in attendance to tell the tale!
Things get rocky at the Gravel household when paranoid Peggy Gravel (Mink Stole) and her murderous maid, Grizelda (Jean Hill), kill Peggy’s husband. They escape from the law, only to wind up in the crazy town of Mortville, where Queen Carlotta (Edith Massey) presides over a sleazy collection of misfits, including the vivacious Muffy St. Jacques (Liz Renay) and the butch lesbian wrestler Mole McHenry (Susan Lowe). When the queen disinherits her daughter, Princess Coo-Coo (Mary Vivian Pearce), the citizens of Mortville decide that it’s time for a few changes!
