The Masked Spirit Sessions at the Treehouse

Full Moon Yoga, Walk & Fire in the Wissahickon

According to legend of the Lenape Indians, the original inhabitants of Philadelphia, Mesignw, or the Masked Spirit, was the guardian of the creatures of the forest, and closely associated with deer. A powerful medicine spirit who maintains the balance of nature, Mesignw was said to visit the Lenape people in dreams and rest at the center of many rituals.

Join the Aluna tribe under the full moon for an unmasking of Spirit, by way of movement and fire. We’ll gather as the ancestors of Philly’s wilderness once did, among the spirits and creatures of the Wissahickon forests. We’ll do ritual for connecting to our indigenous soul, which walks with the dream of living in balance with nature again.

Meet on the grass next to the Treehouse, aka the Wissahickon Environmental Center, which sits near the start of Forbidden Drive. The evening will begin with an hour of yoga led by Meg Townsend. It will be followed with an hour long sunset hike to tune your body and mind to the wisdom of the woods. Finally we’ll close with a fire ceremony held by Meghan Dwyer in the style of the Q’ero Indians of the Andes, to ask for what you need from Spirit and burn that which masks your own spirit.

May the illuminating energy of the full moon show us how we we can live in greater harmony with ourselves, each other and nature.
