~ ~ ~ Surfer Blood ~ ~ ~
Surfer Blood are one of the best young indie-rock bands around, and their fourth album, Snowdonia, is their most ambitious effort yet. Overcoming adversity, the band has artistically grown and thrived. Following the departure of bassist Kevin Williams and guitarist Thomas Fekete (tragically lost to cancer in May 2016), singer/guitarist John Paul Pitts and drummer Tyler Schwarz have rebuilt a talented line-up with guitarist Michael McCleary and bassist Lindsey Mills, all four alumni of the same high school in West Palm Beach, Florida.
For Snowdonia, Pitts wrote specifically with the new band's talents in mind: «When I was writing I was thinking more about background vocals and harmonies. Lindsey and Michael are great singers, and I really wanted that to show in the songs. There are layers of vocals on almost every track, and the call-and-response parts between Lindsey and I are something totally new.”
Along with plenty of Surfer Blood's signature hooks, the band concocted some epic and more complex songs with enormous attention to sonic detail. Pitts wrote and mixed the album alone, for the first time since their debut Astro Coast. The immediacy is intoxicating and the musical and lyrical results are fantastic. Surfer Blood get better and better with each album, and we're sure they'll be making great records for years to come.
~ ~ ~ Winter ~ ~ ~
Winter is the project of songwriter Samira Winter, who's love for guitar music and nostalgic imagery inspired the dream pop/indie rock four piece. Samira grew up in Curitiba, Brazil listening to her American father's punk records, and her Brazilian mother's MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) tunes. While living in Boston during her college years she found a love for shoegaze which led to her collaboration with Nolan Eley who recorded and produced Winter's first EP „Daydreaming“ and LP „Supreme Blue Dream“. In 2013 Samira relocated to Los Angeles where the band currently resides working on their upcoming album „Ethereality.“ Winter aspires to connect people to their inner child by making blissful, beautiful, dream pop.
~ ~ ~ Stereo League ~ ~ ~
Stereo League is a Philadelphia-based recording project and musical collective started by songwriter Alexander Savoth. Stereo League’s sound is rooted firmly in the traditions of early 90’s dream pop and neo-psychedelia. Savoth’s vocals carry the melody driven songs of Stereo League with clarity and subtle power. Their first single Don’t Lay Your Head Down was listed as a top song by a Philly artist in 2017 according to WXPN’s Mike Vasilikos. The group’s first video for Summer Eyes has garnered considerable attention for its atmospheric rendering of the Beatlesque harmonies driving the song.
While most of the songs for the project have been written by Savoth, the essence of the project is steeped in collaboration and includes contributions from nearly a dozen Philadelphia musicians. Primary contributors include producer Eric Bogacz, guitarist Dan King and bassist Mitch Beer. They are currently finishing up production on a full-length album set to be released in 2018.
