The Colored Girls Museum Kicks off Women’s History Month with Part Two of Urgent Care A Social Care Experience. In Part Two TCGM expands further on this idea of the cultural institution as revolutionary healthcare facility. We invite patrons to see themselves as patients and healers as hosts of healing gifts and creators of ancient and modern healing technologies. Each room transforms into healing spaces through the presence of patients/patrons who alter shared physical spaces through our individual and family histories, our relationships with disability and sickness, and our ability to see others in their fullness.

How can our urgent care needs be met by consciously activating beauty love joy art and serenity in our daily lives and our communities. How does social care function as a diagnostic tool --TCGM welcomes into our spring show new artist and new works. Keisha Whatley and Natassja Swift create portraits for our project First Time Ever I Saw your Face, Emily Carr Carmel Brown team up to recreate Triage on the third floor of the Colored Girls Museum. Sara Bunn installs work which deals with the subject of human trafficking. We are also looking forward to reopening The Colored Boys Room Titled: Diagnostic Imaging, with works by Baron Roane, Mark Jason Weston Ian Friday.

Urgent Care A Social Care Experience Part Two is made possible by support from The Campaign for Black Achievement. CBMA is a national membership network that seeks to ensure the growth, sustainability, and impact of leaders and organizations committed to improving the life outcomes of Black men and boys. CBMA is led by fellow Wesleyan alum Shawn Dove 84. ‘Says Shawn “The Campaign for Black Male Achievement is seeking to be more intentional with its intersectional support of Black women and girls, so we are thrilled to provide The Colored Girls Museum with sponsorship for their current and future curated exhibits and events.”

Great thanks to Shawn Dove and our brothers and sisters at CBMA for supporting the ordinary extraordinary Colored Girl!!!
