This May campfire programs are returning to Valley Forge! Come out and join a park ranger for an evening around the campfire for stories about Valley Forge and the American Revolution.
Bring a blanket, flashlight, a jacket and pocket-full of questions for a fireside conversation at Conway's Brigade, located between Gulph Road and PA Route 23/Valley Forge Road.
Park at the Varnum's Quarters Lot or the Varnum's Picnic Area Lot — and then walk down the historic trace road to Conway's Brigade. The program will be canceled in the event of rain, call 610-783-1099 to check on the status of the program.
All programs begin at 7:00 PM and run for 45 — 60 minutes.
May 5th: The Revolution beyond Amer...ica
Did you know that the American Revolution sparked battles outside of the thirteen colonies? American and European armies fought one another in California, India, Central America, and all around the world. Join Ranger Blake to learn about this exciting and forgotten chapter in revolutionary history.
May 12th: Von Steuben's Training 101
It is widely known that at Valley Forge General von Steuben trained the Continental Army. But how much do we know about that training, or General von Steuben for that matter? Join Ranger Bill in a discussion about how the army transformed at Valley Forge and its charismatic drillmaster.
May 19th: The French Alliance
Careful diplomacy led to the ratification of treaties between France and the United States of America bringing about what we commonly call the French alliance. Washington’s Army on May 6th, 1778, celebrated the news of this alliance with a Fieu de Joie (Fire of Joy) cannons, muskets and toasts of Huzzah! on the Grand Parade Ground. The French Alliance took place in an age of Enlightenment- popular culture valued the rights of the common man and challenged monarchies’ absolute power.Though the alliance proved to be a major contributing factor in the United American States Victory! It inevitably helped to lead to the down fall of the French Aristocracy.
